Transportation
Under New York State Education Law, bussing is provided by the student’s home district within a 15-mile radius of a school. A child must be five years old by December 1st in order to use bus transportation. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to file the request for transportation forms by the appropriate deadline, preferably April 1st, to their district.
GCS and its families share responsibility for student conduct while they are on the bus. Due to food allergies and choking concerns, students are not allowed to eat while riding the bus. They must stay seated while on the bus. Children are only allowed to go on another student’s bus if it is within the same district and there is a note from the parent, signed by the principal, agreeing to the change. Students are never allowed to take a bus from outside their own district, however. In the case of field trips, parents may drive and our insurance carrier requires that a copy of their driver’s license be kept on file in the school office.
